DERMAL FILLERS
Dermal fillers are used to fill or 'plump out' wrinkles and folds in the face. They are also used to sculpt lips and for restoring facial contours by adding volume. They provide a subtle, natural looking enhancement and have long lasting results. We only use Juvederm fillers at rjw Aesthetics.
How do they work?
We have naturally occurring hyaluronic acid throughout our bodies. It is present in the deep layers of our skin to keep skin smooth and healthy by helping retain water. As we age, our body's production of hyaluronic acid gradually declines, resulting in visible signs of ageing: natural lines and wrinkles deepen and lips lose their fullness. Dermal fillers are a man-made, non-animal substance that mimics the body's natural depleted hyaluronic acid. Once injected, they provide structure and support, giving the skin a more youthful appearance.
What does treatment entail?
Temporary dermal fillers are injected in small controlled doses under the surface of the skin. Prior to treatment, anaesthetic cream is applied to ensure maximum comfort.
After treatment there may be some redness and swelling to the site. This is normal and will subside, usually within a few days.
How long does it take to start working?
You will notice effects instantly.
How long do the effects last?
The effects will last for up to 12-18 months, depending on the areas treated and the products that are used.
When you start to notice the effects wearing off you can return for a repeat treatment.
If you choose not to continue with dermal fillers the gel will biodegrade in the skin and simply disappear.
What happens if there is a problem?
Complications are extremely rare but all facial aesthetic treatments can result in complications in the wrong hands.
In the unlikely event of any adverse effect we have the knowledge and experience to manage it.

Lines and wrinkles of the upper face are caused by contraction of the underlying muscles. Over the years repeated frowning and squinting results in the development of frown lines and crows feet.
Anti wrinkle treatments are used to create a fresher and more youthful appearance by causing a temporary relaxation of the facial muscles.
Anti wrinkle treatments are used the following areas:

Between the eyes - frown lines
Around the eyes - crow's feet or laugh lines

ANTI WRINKLE INJECTIONS
What does the treatment entail?
Anti wrinkle treatment involves injection with a very fine needle into the facial muscles. The injection process takes about ten minutes.
How long does it take to start working?
You may begin to notice results 24 - 48 hours after treatment, but the full effect will not be evident for up to two weeks.
We will arrange a complimentary follow up appointment to assess the results of treatment and top up as nesscessary.
How long do the effects last?
The effects are temporary and last approximately 3 - 6 months. After this time, repeat treatment will be required to maintain the anti-wrinkle effects. Patients often report that the effects of repeated treatments last longer.
am worried I will look 'frozen'?!
We aim for a natural effect. You will look like you, but with less noticeable wrinkles - a 'fresher' you. You should not lose the ability to show expression. We can give a slightly smaller dose of anti wrinkle treatment for your first treatment ('Baby Botox®') and then top up if it is required. This way we get the very best effect without the 'frozen' look. This does not affect how long the treatment will last.
Are anti wrinkle treatments used to prevent wrinkles or treat wrinkles?
Both.
Anti wrinkle treatments are used in patients who are noticing some dynamic lines (lines on movement only) to prevent these lines from becoming static lines (present when the face is at rest). As wrinkles develop they become deeper and more static. Anti wrinkle treatments can be used to soften the effects of these lines and reduce their progression.
Which products do you use?
We use Botox® which is made by Allergan. We believe it to be the very best product. It allows us to achieve the very best results with the greatest safety.
Are anti wrinkle treatments the same as 'fillers'?
No. Fillers are use to add volume, lift and contour to the face and lips. Anti-wrinkle treatments will reduce the creation of the wrinkle.
Anti wrinkle treatments tend to be used in the upper face and fillers tend to be used in the mid and lower face.

Common questions
Does it hurt?
Anti wrinkle injections are generally a comfortable treatment that is well tolerated. You may feel a little sensitivity at the point of application, though this can be minimised through the use of a topical numbing cream prior to treatment. If you have any concerns, please discuss this with us at your consultation and we will be happy to help alleviate your concerns.
Are there any side effects?
As with any injectable treatment, there is a possibility of some minor side effects. Most commonly, these may include: bruising, swelling, redness, tenderness, itching and sensitivity at the point of application. Any potential side effects will be discussed during a pre-treatment consultation. Any swelling will typically subside within around 48 hours and bruising can be easily concealed with makeup.
What results can I expect?
This treatment works by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. You can expect to see much reduced appearance of lines and wrinkles at the point of application and immediate surrounding area giving you a more youthful look. We always aim to ensure that results appear natural as opposed to ‘frozen’, which is a common concern for people looking to undergo this treatment. Post treatment, the result will continue to develop, and you will enjoy a refreshed and rejuvenated look to your upper face.
